Neighbourhood Watch
Meetings: Last Wednesday each month, 7:30pm to 9:00pm at Medowie Community Hall.
26th July, 2017
Inaugural Meeting: Extract from Geoff Dingle email to participants
Medowie Neighbourhood Watch
Hi Inaugural Members of Medowie neighbourhood Watch Group,
Many thanks for coming along Wednesday night and contributing towards a very successful start to our Medowie Neighbourhood Watch Group. 20 plus participants is excellent and more important a range of age groups and locations across our community.
Thanks also to Port Stephens LAC Crime Prevention Officer Alison Stewart for attending and taking us under her wing. I think already we feel better connected to our police friends and if we can help them to assist us that’s exactly what we should be trying to achieve.
Key points covered:
Crime Stoppers considered the best mechanism for reporting intelligence to police. Immediate event number given and the staff are dedicated to recording crime incidence and intelligence. Data is assessed and posted to the appropriate LAC in reports that determine allocation of resources.
Discussion on scams indicated considerable local experience. Alison indicated that she is kept up to date with the latest versions and a presentation of scams and dealing with these is on the radar.
The Crime Prevention Officer will potentially follow up with existing current operational NHW groups to determine what they have been doing re meetings. Alison also indicated that she will be able to provide a summary of reported and recorded incidence’s in our community as part of future meetings.
Alison suggested the NSW Community portal is good mechanism for relaying photographs and evidence details of criminal intelligence to police. Jo has included details on the face book site on how to access this portal.
Next Meeting: Wednesday 30th August 7.30pm Medowie community centre.
For the next meeting.
Participants are asked to think about topics and guest speakers they think would enhance the meeting content and participation.
Suggested that local maps might be prepared to pin point problem areas re criminal activity. I will source some blank street maps of Medowie.
